Hear now of the terrible crime committed here years ago. In the Grünewald, on the path which leads from Schetzelsbur to Bourglinster, stands a cross, known as the Biergerkreuz. Long ago, a great misdeed took place, in memory of which this cross was erected. A man of the cloth who was walking past this point one evening at dust was suddenly attacked by three rascals who had been lying in wait for him. To defend himself, he reached for his breviary and prayed a short curse from the same, upon which the attackers could not move a muscle in their bodies. They were spellbound and forced to remain in the position they had been in. But the cleric lost hold of the breviary and it fell to the ground. In an instant, the spell was broken. The rascals fell on the defenseless priest and killed him, but in such a way that not a trace of injury could be found on his body. J. Schmit from Esch an der Alzette
