Historische Stätte: Bahnhof von Junglinster

On April 19, 1904, the rail line “de Charly” was ceremoniously inaugurated in Junglinster, attended by venerable figures and associations of the parish and beyond. The train station, which also served as a freight switching station for the large local saw mill “Clement”, was the trigger for the rapid industrial and economic expansion of Junglinster, which continues to today, as was predicted by the then mayor and representative FelixPütz in his dedication speech. The railway connected the city of Luxembour with Junglinster and Echternach. On June 28, 1911, a law was passed that a local rail line of approx. 12 km should connect Junglinster to Lorochette. A station was planned in Altlinster. Due to the chaos of war, however, the project was unfortunately stopped, although the foundation was already nearly complete. Because the line was no longer profitable and there was a desire to remove steam locomotives from the city of Luxembourg, train service to Junglinster was formally ended on April 27, 1957 and passangers and freight transferred to the road. The station building in Junglinster came into other uses. Today, this train would represent a welcome tourist attraction, a consideration which was not on the agenda at the time.
