The lady of the Bourglinster Castle, Eva-Maria von Metzenhausen, Baroness of Zitzewitz, known as aal Ziedewitz, whose husband was commandant of the fortress of Luxembourg, ruled the palace by her whim alone. In front of the palace, under a linden tree, there stood a post with an iron collar. If the lady lost anything, or if there was any crime committed in the forest or fields, the guilty party, depending on the mood of the mistress, was made to stand the whole day at the post with the ring around his neck. It was said that she spied on her vassals in the field, disguised as a black raven, and that she was a witch. She had “Kalisse Klos” from Junglinster thrown into the tower for three months because he was unable to pay the duty he owed to the palace. Who should wonder that the farmer, when he was finally let out of the dungeon, thin with hunger and half frozen, should raise a threatening fist towards the castle and its lady. The “Ziedewitz“, who had been watching her furious vassal from the bay windows, immediately ordered her servants to banish the insubordinate farmer from his home. “The man must leave my domain,” she screamed bitterly. The farmer, though, thought of the rumor, well-known in those parts, that the Devi would come for the evil Ziedewitz at the end of her days and called back to her: “I’ll still be in your domain when the Devil has long since taken you!” N.Gredt
