Bourglinster: Historical Village

The founding of the villiage of Bourglinster as a municipality likely goes back to the 12th-13th century, to the time in which Castle Bourglinster was built. Rich finds in the surrounding area witness to an early settlement of the region going back to the paleolithic. The celtic refuge castle on the wooded knoll East of the village, and the many scratches on the boulders, witness, too, of lively settlement activity. Bourglinster has been repeatedly recognized for its location, as well as its authenticity. The parish of Bourglinster has already existed for over 200 years. The parocial church was built in 1868 as the successor to an earlier chapel. The historic village center is particularly worth seeing, with its fountain and old, well-renovated architechture, some of which goes back to the time of Maria Theresa.
