In the forest on the country road between Junglinster and Altlinster, there now stands the stone base of a cross. Gustav Schmit describes this cross, which in his time had already crumbled, as one of two crosses, joined to make a monument. The top section, which was still present at his time, bore the date 1835. The sculpture appears to have been M. Schergen from Godbringen. In this his day, there was a terrible occurrence which took place at this site. According to the story, around 1830-35, a respectable burgher of the parish of Junglinster was catching frogs in the small mardellen, or ponds, above. As he did, he was caught by the forest wardens of the lords of Bourglinster, who were great hunters and held the hunting rights in the region. The “poacher” was followed as he ran, but was caught and shot at the site where the cross now stands. His family are said to have placed this cross here in his memory. Norbert Weins
