In Eisenborn. On post no. 017 “An der Entert” behind Eisenborn on the hiking trail: J14 Kampengchen.

In the Grünewald near Eisenborn there was an old man who had many servants. One of these was a little boy. One evening, he lay under a large tree when suddenly he heard such a racket coming from the branches and twigs, as if all the owls of the forest were perched in the tree. The boy trembled with fear, fell to his knees and began to pray with all his might that the infernal noise would cease. The oxen had scattered throughout the forest, and the boy had to search long and hard before he could find them all and drive them home. As the oxen were finally in the stall, the boy felt a pain in this right shoulder. He whimpered so loudly that the old lord of the house heard him, stood up and asked him what was wrong. The boy told all that had happened to him. The lord took a book and prayer for three days. Finally, on the third day, the boy’s pain had gone. “Lucky for you that you prayed so well under the tree,” said the lord, “for the witches were in the tree, but they had no power over you. If you had not prayed so well, it would have gone badly for you and you would have been beyond my help.”
