Villa Weimerech

Villa Weimerech (locally known as d‘Schlésschen) was built in 1899 by the businessman Virgil Burg. Thanks to its individual architectural style with towers and bay windows, the building resembles a fairy-tale castle. Unfortunately, its history is not so fanciful. Over time, the owners ran out of money for repairing damage to the building, such that, due as well to various additions, some of the original character of the complex was lost. Virgil’s son, Fons Burg, died tragically with his wife in 2004, aged 86 and 74, on a cold, stormy afternoon on the way back from shopping. They wanted to take a shortcut to their home but turned one dirt road too soon and the car became stuck in the mud. Fons set out on foot to retrieve board from their home to free the car. On his way back, he must have collapsed from exhaustion. The next day, he and his wife were found in their car, having passed away.
