Kulturstätte Kirche Rodenburg

The little church of Rodenbour, a Baroque building, was construction 1754–1755 under Pastor Benedikt Filtz and, contrary to custom, does not face east. There had already been a church in Rodenbourg which stood opposite on the hill, above the “Witch’s House”, and in 1629 had already been declared a ruin. The first altar from the 15th century is now in the National Museum. The current altar, as well as the side altars, are works of art from the Rococo. Extensively renovated by Thomas Lutgen, they are unique in Luxembourg. They are still in their original state, precisely as they were when they were completed in the 18th century. In 1685, the two bells were stolen and in 1729, they were replaced by a new bell from the Jesuit church of Luxembourg and poured in 1620. In 1798, this bell was seized by the French and later replaced by another. The little bell which hangs in the tower, known as the Antonius bell, was purchased in 1975. The church, an particularly its incredible altars, is certainly worth a visit.
