Historische Stätte Freylay

The clearing “Härtcheslay”, surrounded by high boulders, is a Celtic cultic and gathering place. The large, overhanging boulders on the right-hand side gave the cultic site its name. They were dedicated to the goddess Freya. Freya, the sister o the god Frey, was worshiped by Nordic and Celtic peoples as the goddess of love and fertility. The boulders on the other side and referred to locally as Härtcheskiirch”. The many scoring trances on the numerous boulders surrounding the clearing witness to lively cultic activity at this site, even before the arrival of the Celts. No wonder that this region is the origin of many sagas and myths. The depression under the boulders of Freya, for example, are said to originate in earlier excavations which were failed attempts to find a golden calf.
