Hermann Meyeres (1926 - 1944)

Hermann Meyeres was born in Eupen (Belgium) on 12 December 1926. He had the luxembourgish nationality, as his father was a Luxembourger and worked as a teacher in Eupen. However, the family returned to Junglinster in the 1930s. In Junglinster the family then ran a small corner shop.
In July 1944 Hermann was forcibly recruited into the Wehrmacht, where he had to work as a radio operator in Frankfurt/Oder Güldendorf. From here a last trace of his troop could be traced back to Berlin. Nothing is known about his later whereabouts and place of death.
On March 11, 1969, Joseph Meyeres, Hermann's father, received the last letter from the commissariat de rapatriement informing him that no further information had been found on Hermann's whereabouts after his move to Berlin. The file of Hermann Meyeres was then classified. Hermann Meyeres probably died at the age of 18 in combat against the Soviet army.

Picture: Certificate that H. Meyeres did not belong to the SS. This investigation was probably carried out because of his "German" first name.
