Jaques Santer, born on May 18, 1937 in Wasserbillig, is a Luxembourger politician with the Christlich-sozialen Volkspartei (CSV) [Christian-Social People’s Party], as well as an honorary State Minister of Luxembourg. From July 20, 1984 to July 14, 1989, Jaques Santer served as Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Minister of State. Until July 13, 1994, Jaques Santer served in the second Santer-Poos administration as Prime Minister, Minister of Culture (through January 1995) and Minister of State. He also held numerous international offices. Among others, he was President of the European Commission from 1995 to 1999. From 1984 to 1989, he was also a member of the Board of Governors of the World Bank, and was Governor of the International Monetary Fund from 1991 to 1994.
