A panorama view of Altlinster and the painterly valley of the White Ernz. Opposite the vantage point, below the wooded hill “Härdchesbësch” in grassy bowl stood the original castle of Linster. Here, the Lords of Linster lived prior to their move in the 13th century to Bourglinster. The moated castle, which grew out of a frankish fortified farmhouse which continued to be built up and fortified over the centuries. After the Lords of Linster moved away, the compound was occupied for a long time by their vassles. At the end of 1800, according to Prof. Nic Wies, it was still possible to make out the remnants of an ivy-covered wall at the site. Unfortunately, this was destroyed in 1800 by works to lay a rail connection from Junglinster to Larochette.
